How Does a Direct Tire-Pressure Monitoring System Work?

How Does a Direct Tire-Pressure Monitoring System Work?

Direct Tire-Pressure Monitoring Systems (dTPMS) work through a physical air-pressure monitoring device attached to a tire’s valve system. The monitor is a sensor that transmits data to the car’s central computer. These devices are battery operated and require professional technicians like those employed by Kelowna Chrysler Dodge Jeep to remove and replace.

To save battery power, the monitors do not activate until the tires rotate and shut down for every minute-long or longer stop. If you are driving around Kelowna and you notice that your tire-pressure light is on and that it turns off when you are stopped at a light for an extended amount of time, that does not mean that the issue has gone away.

When a tire-pressure monitor battery lacks power, the car’s computer may become confused as its instructions are to pay attention to information it is not receiving. The lack of information may trigger your dash warning light.
